Drowned body found
THE body of a teenage boy who went missing in the sea in Port Alfred has been found.
Marine and Coastal Management official, Andile Maki, confirmed the body of 14-year-old Siyabulela Madotyeni of Nemato was found at Rufane‘s near the Riet River on Wednesday morning.
Police spokesman Captain Mali Govender confirmed the find.
“The recovered body is in a very bad state as it has been in the water since January 3, the day the boy went missing,” Govender said.
According to Govender the body was dressed in cream colour pants.
Madotyeni went missing in the surf at East Beach last Sunday while playing with friends.
Last week Talk of the Town reported lifeguards had been accused of idleness and of a delay in telling the authorities of the incident.
Claims were also made by the spokesman for Wild Coast Guard, project manager ZM “Tall” Ngalo, that the drowning incident was fabricated by “a lying racist reporter”.
Last Wednesday we asked Ngalo to comment on the incident but he denied the drowning had occurred.
“You people are just liars, have a nice day,” he said and hung up.
He later came to TotT‘s office and started a quarrel, alleging our reporter was a “lying racist” and TotT was seeking to replace his company “with your white buddies”.
Ngalo also suggested the story of the missing boy was fabricated but the recovery of the body on Wednesday totally dispels his suggestions.
Ngalo was not prepared to comment on the latest developments.
“I do not even know where Riet River or Rufane‘s are,” Ngalo said.
Ngalo claimed he was working with Govender on the matter and said he would not provide TotT with any information.
“Why should I want to give you any information?”
Numerous complaints over the work ethics of the lifeguards have been sent to TotT all week. - HENNIE MARAIS
