Raped child in serious condition
THE small farming community of Alexandria was shocked by the rape of a three-year-old girl on Monday.
Police have arrested an 18-year-old in connection with the incident, which occurred during the early morning hours in the suburb of Wentzel Park.
The mother of the child allegedly locked her alone in the house before leaving in search of her boyfriend.
On their return they found the door forced open and the bleeding child lying on the bed. She had been raped.
Neighbours reported the matter to the police and a case of rape is being investigated.
The child is in a serious condition at a hospital in Port Elizabeth.
On Monday evening detectives from Alexandria arrested a suspect. He will remain in custody untill his court appearance. - STAFF REPORTER
