Primary school has hand in success
THE principal and teachers of Dambuza Public Primary School are very proud of their former pupils who excelled in last year‘s matric exams.
The principal of Dambuza, Madoda Ngece, said more than 90% of the children who passed matric at Nomzamo Secondary School got their primary school education at Dambuza.
Ngece believes that a primary school has a lot to do with how the children are formed for high school.
“It is important that they receive the right teaching and the right discipline which can be carried all the way through to matric,” he said.
According to Ngece it is important that the foundation is set in the lower grades.
One of the top five pupils at Nomzamo Secondary School in 2009, Thandiswa Mamani, is a good example.
The 18-year-old praised her former primary school teachers for the role they played in making her a successful matriculant.
“They are well experienced, most of them have been in this profession for a long time, they are diligent and teach discipline,” said Mamani.
She will begin her studies at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University this year. She said she had chosen to study for a bachelors degree in pharmacy because it is her passion to help people.
“If the pupils of Dambuza and Nomzamo work hard and persevere and they believe in themselves then they can do anything,” she said.
Mamani‘s grade 2 and 7 teachers raved about their prize pupil.
Her Grade 7 teacher at Dambuza, Boniswa Fxelewa, said that Mamani was always a very bright student who did not have many friends because she was always into her books and loved to work alone.
“We used to call her ‘Jomo‘ which means ‘Big Brain‘,” laughed Fxelewa.
Her Grade 2 teacher, Sindiswa Botha, said that from an early age, Mamani showed that she could go anywhere in life.
“We are all very proud of Mamani and our pupils,” said Botha.
Ngece said that the current pupils of Dambuza should learn from Mamani‘s example and attend school regularly, be self-disciplined and listen to the teachers.
“The future is in their hands, they must apply themselves to their work so they can be successful,” said Ngece.
He added that the present staff of Dambuza Primary wished their former pupils all the best in their future endeavours.
“They have made us very proud,” he said. - LIESL AH SHENE
